The second song collection by senior lyricist Shubha Mukarung, “Yatai Almalie”, has been ceremoniously launched. Organized by the Lyricists’ Association of Nepal, the event took place at Green Leaf Food Hotel, Putalisadak, Kathmandu. Mukarung’s first book, “Pugnu Kaha Thiyo”, had already been well-received by readers.
The program featured distinguished guests, including former minister and senior lyricist S.P. Koirala, former president of the Lyricists’ Association Chudamani Devkota, senior cultural scholar Bhakta Rai, senior singer Dilendra Mukarung, senior lyricist Sheetal Kadambini, renowned poet and lyricist Chandra Ranahongcha, and lyricist Bipin Kiran, among others.
Shubha Mukarung, a former president of the Lyricists’ Association, has spent over three decades contributing to the literary world. His creations primarily revolve around life and folk traditions. Coincidentally, the launch day also marked the birthday of his son, Riyong Hang Mukarung, adding a special touch to the occasion.
Speaking at the event, former president Chudamani Devkota remarked,
“Shubha Mukarung is a name that needs no introduction. Even the legendary Natikaji has composed music for his lyrics. This second collection is remarkable, and his immense contribution has elevated the Lyricists’ Association to its current stature.”
Similarly, senior lyricist Amar Bantu shared,
“In terms of age, I am senior to Shubha Mukarung, but in creativity, he surpasses me. I lack the standing to comment on his creations. However, his statement, ‘I don’t write influenced by anyone; I write from within myself,’ deeply inspires me. His originality is evident in this collection.”
Senior cultural scholar Bhakta Rai commented,
“Any field requires risk-taking, and Shubha Mukarung has courageously taken risks in his literary journey. Today’s success and recognition are the results of those efforts. Once, in a personal conversation, I asked him what he was busy with, and his reply was, ‘Yatai Almalie.’ Seeing this extraordinary creation today, I am truly astonished. It is a testament to a life well-lived.”
Former minister S.P. Koirala added,
“Songs are often dismissed as mere entertainment, which is incorrect. Songs serve as the eyes and voice of society. Shubha Mukarung’s creations exemplify this. Over his nearly three decades in literature, this collection vividly portrays society’s essence. He is a proud product of Bhojpur’s soil.”
Renowned academic Rajan Mukarung also praised the book, stating,
“This collection hasn’t left Shubha Mukarung confused—it has strengthened him. It has given him the responsibility to awaken societal consciousness. Congratulations and best wishes for this masterpiece.”
While speaking about his work, Shubha Mukarung said,
“‘Yatai Almalie’ reflects the confusion that often exists in the field of literary creation. It is also the title of one of my songs. I can’t assess my own creations; that is for readers and audiences to decide. My focus has been on life and folk contexts. I am grateful for the continuous encouragement and suggestions I have received. I hope to continue receiving your support, along with constructive feedback.”
The program was presided over by the president of the Lyricists’ Association of Nepal, senior lyricist Basanta Bityasi Thapa, and conducted by vice-president Ramesh Koirala. The event witnessed a significant presence of lyricists, musicians, journalists, and other prominent personalities.
