Eric Valli said, “I’m extremely happy to see the progress of Nepali films. The film Unko Sweater, which I just watched, beautifully tries to tell a story about family emotions and culture. I’ve often seen weaknesses in the scripts of many Nepali films, but I didn’t find that here. It is a very sensitively and beautifully written film. From the cinematography to the acting, every element is commendable.”

Valli remarked that films like Unko Sweater show that Nepali cinema is now stepping into new perspectives and deeper themes. He said, “The new filmmakers of Nepal are the key hope for the future of Nepali cinema. Films like Unko Sweater confirm that potential.”

Eric Valli: A name devoted to Nepal’s cultural exploration

Eric Valli is one of those foreign creators who has considered Nepal as his second home. At the age of 18, while traveling in Afghanistan, his visa expired and he came to Nepal via India. Since then, he has engaged in deep studies of remote regions like Arun, Tamor, Dolpa, Bajhang, and Bajura. By learning the Nepali language, he tried to understand the local lifestyle, traditions, and cultural diversity.

His famous film Caravan (1999) portrayed the lifestyle, natural hardships, and cultural heritage of Nepal’s Dolpa region on an international platform. The film was even nominated at the 72nd Academy Awards. In Valli’s view, Nepal is not just a land of natural beauty, but a society rich in cultural depth.

The praise from an internationally acclaimed figure like Eric Valli has added further credibility to the recognition that Unko Sweater has earned through its creativity and emotional power.
