‘Unko Sweater’, which has become the first superhit Nepali film of 2082 B.S., continues to make waves at the Nepali box office even into its fourth week. Having grossed over NPR 100 million by its third week, the film has not only broken commercial records but also won a special place in the hearts of audiences.
To celebrate this success, the film unit organized a cake-cutting event on Tuesday evening at FQube Cinema in Chabahil, Kathmandu, with the audience present after the screening. Key actors including Bipin Karki, Alex Paras, Pariksha Limbu, Sharda Devi Silwal, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, singer Sujan Chapagain, music director Kovid Bajra, lyricist Hark Saud, cinematographer Chintan Rajbhandari, and director Navin Chauhan were in attendance.
The cake featured visuals inspired by the film’s posters and popular songs. According to director Chauhan, the event was not a publicity stunt, but rather “an effort to share joy and express gratitude to the audience.” He added that after the film entered the 100 million club, the theater was selected through a lucky draw, with FQube being chosen.
The hall was nearly houseful, and the excitement among the audience was palpable. The film unit expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the movie’s success. Director Chauhan said, “There’s nothing material we can give in return, but we must repay the audience with love. That’s why we shared a cake.”
‘Unko Sweater’ is currently being screened in over 100 shows across Nepal, as well as internationally in the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the Middle East. The cast includes Bipin Karki, Miruna Magar, Pariksha Limbu, Alex Paras, Wilson Bikram Rai, Suraj Tamu, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, and Sunil Pokharel.
The film, which has gained recognition even on the international stage, was described by French director Éric Valli as “a sensitive portrayal of Nepali society and culture.” It has also received praise from figures like Manisha Koirala, Baburam Bhattarai, Rajesh Payal Rai, Vijay Lama, and Nazir Hussain.
