Director Krisha Chaulagain has signed on for the new film Jahajai Ma, sparking widespread attention. Krisha had reached an agreement to direct the film during her visit to Japan. She is currently busy with the pre-production process.
It has been confirmed that Purushottam Pradhan will be handling the cinematography. The production team has already revealed the name of the film’s lead actress.
Japanese actress Rajel Ichimiya has been confirmed to play a major role in the film. Although Krisha had shared a photo with Rajel during her time in Japan, she hadn’t disclosed anything about her at the time.
The official poster shows a serene, snow-filled scene, with Rajel standing gracefully under a transparent umbrella, exuding elegance and beauty. Judging by the poster, this film is expected to serve not just as a film, but also as an emotional bridge between Nepal and Japan.
Director Chaulagain stated that blending a Japanese actress into a Nepali narrative is challenging but exciting. The film is being produced under the banner of UNA Production by Ujwal Guragain. According to Ujwal, the story revolves around the relationship between Nepal and Japan, and explores themes of love, dreams, and struggle.
While the Japanese lead actress has been confirmed, the nationality of the lead actor has yet to be revealed. Director Chaulagain mentioned that the casting for the male lead is still in progress.
Rajel is an actively working actress and model in Japan. Bringing her into a Nepali film is a novelty in itself, and is expected to enhance the international image of Nepali cinema.
The film is scheduled for release in 2026.
