Vinay K2, also known as Vinay Karki—who rose to fame in the 2060s (early 2000s) with the song “Jaba Timi Eklai Thiyau”—has announced the formation of his own band and his comeback to Nepali audiences.
On Saturday, Vinay made this announcement by releasing an introductory video of the band. According to the announcement, he will now connect with Nepali music lovers through the band “Vinay Karki and Thunga.”
About a decade and a half ago, Vinay began his musical journey with the band “The Middle Unit.” He shared that working with a band gives him greater satisfaction, which is why he has decided to become active with a band again.
“My musical journey also started with a band. However, since my bandmates went abroad and got busy with their personal lives, I had to continue solo,” he said. “But I always wanted to perform with a band. Now, the opportunity has arrived, and I enjoy singing with a band much more.”
Vinay revealed that he had started efforts to form a new band three years ago, which has now taken shape. The band has already recorded a few songs.
The new band comprises five members: Vinay as the lead vocalist, Salon Ramtel and Rushant Bishunkhe as guitarists, Adarsha Shahi Khadgi on drums, and John Roka on bass.
The band plans to release its new album and hold a live concert on Shrawan 24. On the same day, they are also set to release a music video for one of their new songs.
While active as a solo artist, Vinay first gained attention in 2063 BS with “Jaba Timi Eklai Thiyau.” Later, songs like “Mayama Ghaat” (2070) and “Mayama Phase Ki Ma” (2078) became favorites among Nepali audiences. Most recently, his song “Ex Lover” has gained popularity among teenage listeners.
