From Prestige to Power — Baristha Balaram Captures the Battle of Ambition

Actor Dayahang Rai has described Baristha Balaram as a story that explores the conflict between an established individual trying to protect his prestige and a rising one striving to make his mark.

In the film, Dayahang portrays the already established character, while Bijay Baral plays the emerging challenger.

“Every person, no matter who they are inside, wants to appear respectable and senior in society. That’s human nature,” Dayahang said. “The film reflects this very trait — my character embodies that idea.”

According to him, Baristha Balaram also captures the clash between ambition and ego — one’s desire to be seen as senior and superior.

Actor Bijay Baral said the film tells the story of an ordinary person’s desire to become someone significant. “The movie is about the mental and emotional conflict that arises from that ambition,” he explained.

Baral revealed that his character, Bale, gets caught between the two main forces played by Dayahang and himself.
“As for who ‘Balaram’ really is — that will be revealed after the trailer and once the film is released,” he teased. “But in the movie, my character is called Bale.”

Sharing his experience, Bijay said acting opposite Dayahang Rai was both inspiring and intimidating.
“As a senior, I deeply respect him. At first, I was a bit hesitant and would ask, ‘How should I do this, Dai?’ He’d say, ‘Don’t hesitate — go for it.’ That gave me confidence,” he recalled.

Dayahang, however, noted that on set, there are no seniors or juniors — only characters. “While shooting Dasdhunga, I worked with my mentor Anup Baral in a similar dynamic,” he said. “He always said, ‘In character, there’s no teacher or student — it’s your chance to express freely.’”

Actress Samriddhi Aryal emphasized that her role is not just a decorative presence in the film.
“I have an impactful role that influences both lead characters,” she said, adding that her part in Baristha Balaram would significantly contribute to her acting career.

Directed by Surendra Paudel, Baristha Balaram is set to release on Kartik 6 (during Bhai Tika). The film features Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Samriddhi Aryal, Pashupati Rai, Maotse Gurung, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Rambabu Regmi, and Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary (PK) in key roles.

The story and editing are by director Paudel himself, with the screenplay written by Mahesh Dawadi. Produced under the banner of Vrishabh Siddhi Entertainment in association with Aanvi Films, the film is produced by Ashish H. Tamang and Shriraj Karki.

Cinematography is by Man Krishna Maharjan, with music by Prashant Shiwakoti, action direction by Samrat Basnet, and choreography by Pradeep Lama.

The film will be distributed by DCN inside the Kathmandu Valley and Kuber Cine Distribution outside the valley.
