Actor Dayahang Rai has said that he is attempting to present a different look in his upcoming film “Baristha Balram.” Known mostly for portraying rural and struggling characters, Dayahang will now be seen in the role of a wealthy urban man.
In the film, Dayahang plays a stylish character who moves around in a car, surrounded by several people — a reflection of his status and power. “This time, even my appearance carries a new kind of flair,” he said. The trailer has already hinted at this new look, which stands out compared to his previous films.
Dayahang rarely appears in suits and ties. “For me, the real joy lies in exploring the inner world of a character rather than its external appearance,” he said. “When I first read the script, I didn’t imagine my character would have this kind of get-up.”
“Baristha Balram” is directed by Surendra Paudel, who envisioned Dayahang’s character as a well-dressed man exuding authority, even though the character’s inner nature is quite different.
Filmed under the scorching heat of Chitwan, Dayahang performed several scenes wearing a suit and tie. “The outfit was different, but not uncomfortable,” he shared. “However, the coat was truly challenging to wear in that heat.”
In the film, Dayahang plays a man determined to maintain his dominance and seniority, clashing with Bijay Baral, who tries to challenge his authority. Their conflict forms the core of the story.
“Baristha Balram” is set to release on Kartik 6 (during Tihar/Bhai Tika). Alongside Dayahang and Bijay, the film features Samriddhi Aryal, Pashupati Rai, Mao Tse Gurung, Bhola Raj Sapkota, and Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary (PK) in major roles.
The supporting cast includes Sirjana Subba, Rambabu Regmi, Yesheli Yonghang, Vijaya Adhikari, Pradeep Dhakal, Pramod Agrahari, Labish Gadtoula, Sanjay Thapa, Raj Neupane, Raunak Singh, Kamal Devkota, Sunil Tamang, Santosh Giri, Kiran Chamling Rai, and Kundan Tharu.
Child actors Sujen Thapa and Saisa Gauchan also appear in the film.
The story and editing are by Surendra Paudel, while the screenplay is written by Mahesh Dawadi. Produced under Vrishabh Siddhi Entertainment in association with Aanbhi Films, the producers are Ashish H. Tamang and Shriraj Karki, with Pradeep G. Dhami and Pushkar B. Ghimire as executive producers, and Ram Bista as line producer.
The film’s cinematography is by Man Krishna Maharjan, music by Prashant Shiwakoti, action direction by Samrat Basnet, and choreography by Pradeep Lama.
Distribution will be handled by DCN within the Kathmandu Valley and Kuber Cine Distribution outside the valley.
