The Nepali film ‘PR’, slated for all-Nepal release from December 11 (Mangsir 26), has officially sold its screening rights for Japan. The rights have been acquired by Yuna Digital, a Japan-based Nepali film distributor.
According to director Shovit Basnet, the film has been “sold out” in Japan. “We’ve sold the rights for Japan at a very good price,” he said. “Discussions are ongoing with distributors from other countries, and we’ll share more updates soon.”
Basnet added that ‘PR’ is a deeply emotional story centered on love, struggle, and migration. “The story focuses on the lives of Nepali sons and daughters living abroad and the expectations their parents hold for them back home,” he explained.
The recently released song ‘Tata Bye Bye’ from the film has gained huge popularity on social media. Within days of its release, it climbed YouTube’s trending charts, while short videos based on its lyrics and melody have gone viral on TikTok.
The film stars Neer Shah, Gauri Malla, R.A. Suraj Paudel, Binita Karki, Rajan Kunwar, Pooja Chaudhary, Ashma Adhikari, Mastani, Bimala Khatri, Ganesh Budhathoki, Max Babu, Krishna Thapa, and Naveen Ghail among others. Special appearances include Rabindra Khadka, Uttam K.C., and Dikpal Karki.
‘PR’ is presented by Ranjit Sah and Santosh Tiwari, and produced by Laxman Sapkota and Pradeep Dahal. The film is written by Ganesh Budhathoki, edited by Bande Prasad, and cinematographed by Saurabh Sayami and Saurabh Lama. Distribution is being handled by R.R. Films.
According to the production team, the sale of Japanese screening rights has boosted anticipation among Nepali audiences abroad. Earlier, special shows of ‘PR’ were organized across several Australian cities, where thousands of viewers attended the screenings.
