The shooting of the Nepali film ‘Roll No. 1’ has officially begun in Myagdi, the production team confirmed. Following a two-week workshop, the crew moved into production, with a schedule of approximately one and a half months.

The film stars Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, Sirjana Adhikari, Sundar Dhital, and Nirbhik Regmi in key roles. It is directed by Jon Yonjan, who has also written the story.

According to producer Binod Paudel, ‘Roll No. 1’ explores the psychological pressure students face due to social expectations and the belief that only winning earns respect while failure equals disgrace. The film challenges the widespread mindset that only the top-ranked student is intelligent and others are inferior.

An earlier first-look poster featured a classroom scene where a young boy raised his hand to mark attendance, surrounded by students in blue shirts, a blackboard, and a nearby teacher — hinting at the film’s educational and social themes.

The screenplay and dialogues are written by Mahesh Dawadi, with music by Prashant Shivakoti.

Produced under the banner of Seven Seas Cinema, the film is backed by Binod Paudel and Gunjan Giri, with Ramesh Chaulagain serving as executive producer.

The crew includes Shivaram Shrestha as DOP, Firoj Khadka as chief assistant director, Kala Sangraula as production designer, Manoj Joshi as production head, and Madan Ghimire as editor.

Producer Paudel’s another project, ‘Abhimanyu: Chapter–1’, is set for nationwide release on Mangsir 18.
