Kathmandu: Good news for cinema lovers in the scenic district of Ilam: Friends Cinemas, which has successfully operated halls in Dharan and Butwal, has opened its third branch in Ilam.
The new hall, located in Ilam Municipality–7, was inaugurated on Friday with a grand ceremony attended by popular Nepali actor Pal Shah, renowned actress Usha Upreti, and stunt director/producer Chandra Pant.
Excited audiences got a chance to see their favorite stars up close, making the event lively and festive.
Built at a cost of approximately NPR 35 million, the hall has 188 seats and operates from the municipality parking building. Equipped with Tuke Projection and Dolby Digital Sound System, the hall promises a cinematic experience comparable to Kathmandu multiplexes.
Chairman Pradeep Dhami emphasized that the hall will provide Ilam’s audience with a family-friendly and comfortable movie-watching environment. “Our goal is to bring capital-city quality cinema to the districts. Now, film lovers in Ilam won’t need to travel to Jhapa or elsewhere for premium viewing experiences,” he said.
The arrival of Friends Cinemas addresses the lack of quality movie halls in Ilam, and new Nepali films will be screened here on release day itself, making it a cultural hotspot for locals and tourists alike.
The chain plans to expand to other districts in the future. Director Ashish H Tamang highlighted that expanding the domestic market is key to the sustainability of the Nepali film industry, and opening small halls in multiple districts will increase audience reach significantly.
