‘Laalimaa’ Trailer Trends Within 24 Hours, Spotlighting the Psychological Struggles of Sex Workers

Kathmandu — At a time when film-related activities have slowed due to the election atmosphere, the trailer of Lalima has entered YouTube’s trending list within just 24 hours of its release.

Released on Saturday, the trailer secured the No. 5 position in YouTube’s film category, reflecting strong audience interest.

Written and directed by Roshan Miraj, the film aims to portray the harsh realities, compulsions, and mental health challenges faced by sex workers. Actress Roshni Karki plays the titular role of Laalimaa, a sex worker navigating love, stigma, and psychological turmoil.

The film also stars actor Jiwan Bhattarai alongside Usha Rajak, Sushma Niraula, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sabin Kattel, and Shishir Wangdel in key roles.

Scheduled for release on March 12 (Falgun 29) to coincide with International Women’s Day, Laalimaa explores emotional upheavals, romantic relationships, and mental distress arising from life in sex work. The trailer ends on a powerful note, showing Lalima battling severe psychological trauma.

According to actress Karki, the film focuses on the mental health issues of sex workers, addressing their background, circumstances, emotional state, and daily struggles.

Actress Usha Rajak appears in the role of a differently-abled woman who cannot speak and portrays Laalimaa’s mother, adding emotional depth to the narrative.
The trailer also hints at a major plot twist involving Laalimaa giving birth, leaving viewers in suspense.

Presented by Faith Aastha, Laalimaa is executive produced by Reena Lama and will be distributed by National Cine Group Nepal.
