The social drama film Pahad, directed by Tulsi Ghimire, is set for nationwide release from Tuesday on the occasion of Nepali New Year 2083. The film premiered on Sunday and received an overwhelmingly positive response.
Audiences and industry figures praised its storyline and performances, highlighting its focus on unemployment, depopulation of hill regions, and climate change.
Veteran filmmaker and actor Neer Shah described the film as a “truly original work” that reflects Nepali identity while presenting contemporary realities.
Actor Bhuvan KC called it a complete family package, while Jitu Nepal shared that the film left him emotional, praising the director’s unique storytelling style.
Other notable personalities including Deepashree Niraula, Deepak Raj Giri, Dibakar Bhattarai, Ramesh Upreti, and Kiran KC also praised the film for portraying Nepal’s ground reality.
Director Ghimire expressed satisfaction with the response, stating that the film captures not only the beauty of the hills but also the growing issue of migration and its socio-economic consequences.
The film stars Madan Krishna Shrestha, Bipin Karki, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Sunil Thapa, Renunath Yogi, Uma Giri, Arun Chhetri, and debutant Panchami Ghimire.
Cinematography is handled by Pramod Pradhan, with music composed by Ranjit Gazmer. The film is produced under Bhagyaratna Films and will be distributed in Nepal by Venkatesh Entertainment and internationally by Seven Seas International Films.
