The film ‘Lalibazar’, produced by Shatkone Arts, is set to release on Baisakh 18. The production house, known for successful films like ‘Jatra’, ‘Jatrai Jatra’, ‘Mahapurush’, and ‘Mahajatra’, is bringing a new socially driven story this time.
Produced by Max Dipesh Khatri and Rabindra Singh Baniya, with Pradeep Bhattarai involved in the team, the film is directed by Yam Thapa.
The story is also written by Thapa, who has previously directed films like ‘Rajja Rani’, ‘Hurrey’, and ‘Meri Mamu’, and worked as a screenwriter in ‘Kohinoor’, ‘Anjila’, and ‘Paran’.
According to Thapa, the collaboration began while discussing a project focused on the Terai region. “During discussions, the team was looking for a strong story. I shared my story centered on a mother, and that’s how ‘Lalibazar’ began,” he said.
Although he initially did not plan to direct the film, he eventually took on the role following a proposal from Pradeep Bhattarai. The film’s title ‘Lalibazar’ was also suggested by Bhattarai during a location visit.
The film revolves around a mother-daughter relationship and reflects a segment of society. “It’s a story that will make audiences reflect on social realities,” Thapa added.
Songs like ‘Mayalai Ke Diu Ma Baina’ and ‘Mitho Sansar’ have already gained popularity across YouTube and short-video platforms.
Shot in Rajapur, Bardiya, the film stars Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, along with Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhay Baral, Prem Pandey, Pradeep Dhakal, Asha Paudel, Govinda Sunar, Abha Aryal, Tara Sharma, Ramesh Badi, Saraswati Adhikari, Janaki Kadayat, Nishchal Panthi, Birbal Chaudhary, among others.
The film also marks the debut of Bishal Devkota and Prashansa Subedi.
The screenplay and dialogues are co-written by Yam Thapa and Pradeep Bhattarai.
The technical team includes JB Ruwali (creative director), Samrat Basnet (action director), Sushan Prajapati (cinematography), Mitradev Gurung (editor), Rohit Shakya and Shailesh Shrestha (background score), and Umesh Chaudhary (art director), among others.
