‘Buki’ Heads to Japan for World Premiere, Marks Global Step for Nepali Sports Drama

The film ‘Buki’, directed by Bibash Kumar Majhi and Mohan KC, is set to hold its world premiere in Japan. The production team announced the premiere along with unveiling the first look of its main characters.

The film will have its world premiere on May 6, 2026, in Osaka, Japan. A special screening will be held at Minato Kumin Center from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The event is being seen as an important step toward expanding Nepali cinema in the international market.

The official poster features Surakshya Pant, Debendra Bablu, Roshani Karki, and Prakash Ghimire in key roles. The background includes a volleyball court and players, indicating that the film revolves around women’s volleyball and struggle, while also capturing the essence of Himalayan life.

Surakshya Pant is seen celebrating victory with a trophy in a ‘Nepal’ jersey, hinting at an inspiring sports journey. Roshani Karki appears in a simple and cheerful look.

Debendra Bablu is portrayed in a serious character wearing a jersey, suggesting a responsible role, while veteran actor Prakash Ghimire appears as a mentor figure. Laxminath Timalsina is seen as a coach or team leader.

‘Buki’ refers to a special flower that blooms in Himalayan highlands during the rainy season. The film explores the emotional connection between sports and nature. It has been shot in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dhorpatan in Baglung.

Presented by Himalayan Musical Event Management and Films, the film stars Surakshya Pant, Debendra Bablu, and Roshani Karki in lead roles, alongside Prakash Ghimire, Laxminath Timalsina, Nisha Bajgain, Ghanu Joshi, Anu Dahal, Sandip Babu Lohani, and others.

Produced by Laxman Sapkota, Amisha Kaucha Thapa Magar, and Ramesh Thapa, the film also features Prakash Ale and Rajan KC as executive producers.

Although the official release date in Nepal is yet to be announced, the makers aim to release the film nationwide within 2026.
