Kathmandu — The teaser of the upcoming Nepali film Roll No. 1 has been officially released, portraying the emotional struggles of underprivileged families within Nepal’s education system.
Produced by Binod Poudel, the teaser was unveiled on YouTube on Friday. The film presents the harsh reality of students who rely entirely on scholarships for education and the emotional pain that follows when those opportunities are lost.
The teaser focuses on a father sacrificing his own dreams for his son’s future, while also depicting the frustration and psychological pressure faced by children unable to meet academic expectations. It sheds light on how government scholarship policies requiring students to rank first in class often exclude children from poor and marginalized communities.
According to the production team, the film reflects the untold story of many struggling Nepali families. Following the success of Purna Bahadurko Sarangi, producer Poudel’s latest project explores the negative impact of the current education system on child psychology and long-term personal development.
Directed by John Yonjan, the film stars Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi and Sirjana Adhikari in lead roles. Child actors include Nirbhik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal and Sijal Shrestha.
The film is jointly produced by Binod Poudel and Janvi Poudel, with Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain serving as co-producers. The screenplay is written by Mahesh Dawadi.
Shot across scenic rural areas of Myagdi district, the film features cinematography by Shiv Ram Shrestha. Music is composed by Prashant Siwakoti, with background score by Rohit Shakya. Editing is handled by Madan Ghimire.
Roll No. 1 is scheduled for release on May 29, coinciding with Nepal’s Republic Day, and will be screened simultaneously in Nepal and overseas markets. Distribution rights have been secured by Rich Entertainment and JM Cinema.
