Kathmandu: The teaser of the upcoming Nepali film “Hali” has been released ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on August 6 (Shrawan 22). With the release date approaching, the production team has intensified its promotional campaign by unveiling the film’s first glimpse.

The 1-minute and 28-second teaser focuses on the deeply rooted issue of Chhaupadi, a discriminatory practice that isolates menstruating women and girls from their families and communities. The teaser portrays the emotional and social consequences faced by a young girl forced to stay in a menstrual shed, highlighting the pain caused by harmful traditional beliefs.

A key element of the teaser shows an educated young man challenging the practice and confronting society over its continued existence. While the storyline appears rooted in long-standing traditions, it reflects issues that remain relevant in parts of contemporary Nepal.

Written and directed by Om Pratik, the film features the filmmaker himself in the lead role. The cast also includes Saroj Khanal, Pramod Deep, Aruna Karki, Arjun Gurung, Bidya Karki, Nabin Shrestha, Kanchan Dulal, Kamal Gaule and Bishal Pahadi.

The film is a joint production of Japura Films Production and Shubh Chirayu Films, financed by entrepreneurs Pooja Gurung and Jasmine Shrestha.

Earlier, the production team released a promotional song featuring special dance performances by Deepa Shree Niraula, Kiran K.C., Dilip Rayamajhi, Priyanka Karki and Pooja Sharma. The song generated considerable attention and helped boost audience interest in the film.

Choreography has been handled by veteran choreographer Kabiraj Gahatraj, while some songs were jointly choreographed by Om Pratik and Gahatraj.

The production team includes Arjun Bhusal as executive producer, Namrata Bhandari as co-producer, Laxman Karmacharya as line producer and Jeevanath Gautam as chief assistant director. Cinematography is by Rahul Rai, while editing has been completed by Ram Prasad Chaudhary and Bipin Malla.

The soundtrack features music by veteran composers Shambhujit Baskota, Babul Giri and Krishna Bhardwaj. A featured song written by Jasmine Shrestha and composed by Babul Giri is performed by Babul Giri and renowned singer Shanti Shree Pariyar.

With action direction by Kumar Maharjan, the film will be distributed by National Cine Group Pvt. Ltd., while OSR Digital serves as its digital partner. Actress Sujata Thapa, who recently arrived in Nepal from abroad to support the film’s promotional campaign, has also expressed excitement about the project.
