KATHMANDU — The Film Critics Society Nepal (Fiction) has presented the Critics Film Awards, jointly honoring the years 2081 and 2082 BS in a grand ceremony held at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Veteran actor and comedian Madan Krishna Shrestha, the chief guest of the event, presented the awards to the winners. He said that it was encouraging to see deserving filmmakers and technicians being recognized.

Shrestha noted that not all quality films succeed commercially, adding that many good films fail due to lack of promotion and other factors. He cited ‘Sano Sansar’ as an example of a strong film that did not perform well at the box office.

Accepting the Best Actor award for ‘Bhuthan’, actor Harivansh Acharya said critics’ awards are particularly meaningful and challenging to receive.

He remarked humorously that critics are difficult to satisfy, comparing the award to approval from a strict judge.

Senior Manager at the Nepal Tourism Board, Surya Thapaliya, said that the government can no longer overlook cinema, emphasizing its potential contribution to tourism and the national economy. He added that Nepal could be developed as an international filming hub.

Fiction Chairman Samipyaraj Timsina stressed that strong films and a healthy culture of criticism are essential for the growth of the industry, highlighting collaboration between creators and critics.

The Critics Film Awards have been organized since 2071 BS to promote the qualitative development of Nepali cinema.
