Kathmandu – Director Dr. Kapil Rijal’s upcoming Nepali film Gaunthali is set to hit theaters on July 17 (Shrawan 1), featuring Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka together on screen for the first time.
The duo plays a married couple in the film. Arun, who earned praise for films including Mahapurush, and Simran, known for her performances in Premganj, Chitra, and Behuli From Meghauli, are expected to bring a fresh on-screen pairing to audiences.
The film’s recently released emotional song, “Aankha Bhari Aansu,” has received positive feedback. Sung by Thaneshwar Gautam and Shanti Shree Pariyar, the track features music by Gautam and lyrics by Dr. Bhola Rijal.
The song launch event itself drew attention as Arun and Simran arrived dressed as a bride and groom, surprising invited guests and members of the media.
Earlier, the film’s teaser also generated encouraging responses. According to director Kapil Rijal, audiences have appreciated the film’s subject matter, performances, and emotional storytelling.
“Our teaser and song have received an overwhelmingly positive response. Viewers have praised the story, performances, and the way the film portrays the impact of physical challenges on people’s lives,” said Rijal.
According to the production team, Gaunthali symbolically represents the values of home, family, and human togetherness.
Alongside Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka, the film stars Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Lunibha Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sitadevi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina, and Rajendra Nepali. Child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also appear in the film.
Based on a story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, the screenplay and dialogues have been co-written by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Nishchal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire.
Presented by Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, the film’s executive producer is Sarala Rijal. It is produced by Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal, with Indu Giri, Manish Rijal, Pralaya Rijal, and Jeevan Oli serving as co-producers.
The film features music by Shambhujit Baskota, Thaneshwar Gautam, and Prashant Siwakoti, background score by Alish Karki, cinematography by Hari Humagain, and editing by Milan Shrestha.
The film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment, and F.D. Company, while OSR Digital has acquired its digital rights.
Notably, Dr. Bhola Rijal produced a film with the same title more than two decades ago, widely regarded as Nepal’s first musical feature. That film completed a successful 51-day theatrical run. Now, his son Dr. Kapil Rijal is bringing a new generation’s interpretation of Gaunthali to the big screen.
