Kathmandu: The alleged mistreatment of actress Kajal Karn was raised in Nepal’s House of Representatives on Tuesday, with lawmaker Ninu Kumari Karn calling for a fair investigation and justice.

Speaking during the zero hour of the parliamentary session, MP Karn drew the House’s attention to Kajal Karn’s public appeal for justice, stating that she had also spoken with the actress by phone a day earlier.

According to the lawmaker, Kajal Karn, who has appeared in more than 350 Maithili, Bhojpuri and Nepali music videos and films, was allegedly subjected to discriminatory treatment during the shooting of the Nepali film Chiranjivi Bhavah because of her Madhesi identity.

MP Karn alleged that the actress was mocked, humiliated and told she was unsuitable for the role because she was Madhesi. She also claimed Kajal was insulted during makeup, ridiculed, and eventually removed from the set without being paid for her work.

Questioning how long Madhesis and other marginalized communities would continue to face discrimination, the lawmaker urged authorities and concerned organizations to conduct a thorough investigation. She described the alleged mistreatment of Kajal Karn as an insult not only to the actress but also to the daughters of Madhesh and Mithila, and called for justice in the case.
