The second edition of the Thaha Film Festival is set to take place from Poush 28 (January 12) to Magh 1 (January 15).

The festival will showcase a total of 20 films, including short films, feature films, and documentaries. Out of the 46 films submitted for participation, 20 have been selected, according to the organizer, Thaha Art Center.

The festival, to be held at Bajrabarahi in Thaha Municipality, Makwanpur, will feature notable feature films such as Pakhetaa, Tulki, Bato, Lakhe, Satidevi, and Modiveni. In the short film category, titles like Beli, Antaarta, The Rope of Hope, Nirdesh, Dui Saya Rupaiyaa, and Khila will be screened. Similarly, documentaries like Himalayan Leopard and Girls Rewriting Destiny are also included.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will host discussions on contemporary topics such as Film Criticism and The Diversity of Nepali Cinema.

Thaha Municipality, known for its cultural richness and as a popular tourist destination, has been emerging as a preferred location for film shooting. The festival, organized under the theme Films for Tourism, aims to promote domestic tourism through cinema.

Festival coordinator Pramod Krishna Joshi stated, “Despite being close to cities like Kathmandu and Hetauda, Thaha Municipality does not yet have an operational cinema hall. This festival is organized to cater to the local audience who don’t have easy access to watching films.” He added, “Our goal is to boost domestic tourism under the pretext of watching films.”
