The teaser of the much-talked-about film Uunko Sweater begins with lines like “I got so confused,” “Tamor River,” and “Phaktanglung,” gently sweeping the audience into an emotional current. After it was released a few days ago, viewers seeking originality in Nepali cinema have taken it as a fresh and artistic attempt. The teaser suggests that this might be a beautiful film built around the sweet love story of a couple from the handwritten-letter era. Reactions on social media indicate that the teaser has sent many viewers down memory lane to their teenage years.

A YouTube user, Yodin Tamang, writes: “Every Nepali should be proud of this. I’ve never seen anything like this in the Nepali film industry. Don’t ignore this extraordinary artistic creation. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Artmandu.”

Similarly, Pratap Paudel, who usually doesn’t enjoy watching Nepali films, shares a rather meaningful response: “I rarely watch Nepali movies. Hindi and English films spoiled my taste. But after a long time, I feel like I really need to watch this one.”

Rajiv Budhathoki, who is consistently impressed by Ghoomi Ghoomi director Naveen Chauhan’s style, writes, “These are the kinds of scenes we usually see in Iranian films.” He adds, “Just like the orange was rolled in Ghoomi Ghoomi, the ball of wool is rolled in Woolen Sweater. I liked it.”

Bishal Kunwar went so far as to say the teaser felt like a chapter from his own life: “Wow, the story of the time when we poured our emotions into handwritten auto-filled letters. In other words, the story of my school and college days, and that of my peers. Watching the teaser felt like the thread of our life’s flashbacks was beautifully knitted together and brought here.”

Set to release on Baisakh 26 (April 8), the film features Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar in lead roles, with Alex Paras, Pariksha Limbu, and Wilson Bikram Rai also playing significant parts. The teaser tries to unravel layers of love and memory through the performances of Bipin and Miruna, while Alex and Pariksha bring alive the sensitive conflicts of love.

A moving scene in the teaser shows Bipin expressing his emotions in words in a diary given to him by Miruna. From Miruna’s perspective, the film explores the warmth, complexity, and dilemmas of love.

Woolen Sweater is the first feature film under the Artmandu Pvt. Ltd. banner. Written and directed by Naveen Chauhan, it is co-written by Suraj Katuwal, with music composed by Sujan Chapagain. The film also features strong performances by Sunil Pokharel, Mao Tse Gurung, Prem Subba, Suraj Tamoo, and Bhavana Khapangi Magar. According to the director, the film attempts to knit together different layers of love, memory, and relationships like a warm woolen sweater.

Director Chauhan says, “The deep and heartfelt responses on social media have strengthened my belief that this is not just a film to watch, but one to experience.”
