The trailer of the much-anticipated Nepali film Unko Sweater has been released.

It was unveiled on Tuesday during a special event held at the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu, ahead of its global release scheduled for Baisakh 26 (April 2025). Along with the trailer launch, popular singer Sujan Chapagain’s band, Sujan Chapagain and Infinity, gave a grand concert attended by journalists, artists, and distinguished guests.

Produced by Artmandu Pvt. Ltd., Woolen Sweater is the company’s first feature film, shot in Panchthar district of eastern Nepal. Director Naveen Chauhan shared that the story of the film stretches from Panchthar to the border of West Bengal, India. He described the journey from dreaming about making the film to releasing the trailer as challenging, but said the dream had now become one shared by hundreds. “I tried to create a cinematic world. What started as my personal dream is now one held by many,” said Chauhan.

Lead actor Bipin Karki recalled his journey to Panchthar and expressed gratitude to all the locals who supported the project. He said that, like Artmandu’s songs, this film has also turned out beautifully, and he urged audiences to have faith that it would win their hearts. Lead actress Miruna Magar said she tried to convey the same warmth as a woolen sweater through her portrayal of the character Phulu Gurung. She mentioned that watching the film would transport audiences into a unique cinematic world initiated by Artmandu.

Actress Bhawana Khapangi Magar shared that she felt like one of the many colorful threads in the film. Actress Pariksha Limbu expressed happiness at being part of a film promotion again after a year and said working on Chauhan’s canvas was a matter of good fortune for her.

Actor Alex Paras said it was a joy to be able to watch his work alongside everyone, while Suraj Tamu said the film was both an enjoyable and significant journey for him.

Music director Sujan Chapagain shared his experience of learning many things — through both joy and hardship — during the long journey of the film’s creation. He appealed to the audience to love the film just as they had loved the songs.

Unko Sweater features performances by Bipin, Miruna, Alex, Pariksha, Suraj, Bhawana, as well as Wilson Bikram Rai, Sunil Pokharel, Mao Tse Gurung, and Prem Subba, among others.

With music by Sujan Chapagain and Jhuma Limbu, and written and directed by Naveen Chauhan, the film seeks to interweave themes of cultural diversity, social contradictions, and the vivid colors of Nepali life into a single narrative.
