On Friday, Jestha 9 (May 24), superstar Rajesh Hamal’s comeback film ‘Narsingha: Avatar’ was released nationwide. As it marks his return to the big screen after eight years, the film was highly anticipated by audiences — a fact clearly reflected in its box office performance.

The film had an enthusiastic start during its first two days of screening — Friday and Saturday. According to distributor Karan Shrestha, the film saw 40% occupancy during its Friday morning shows, which rose to as high as 80% in the afternoon and evening. On Saturday, the film witnessed strong audience turnout right from the morning shows.

Distributor Shrestha also shared that Hamal’s star power wasn’t limited to Kathmandu — the film attracted large audiences in cinemas across the country as well. Along with the packed halls, audience feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive. Viewers have praised the film’s storyline, action sequences, and the performances of Rajesh Hamal, actor Shrestha, and actress Sanisha Bhattarai.

On Saturday, superstar Hamal also made a rare public appearance at Ashtanarayan Hall — the single-screen cinema with the largest seating capacity in the country — nearly 10 years since his last visit. Over a thousand viewers were watching the film when he arrived. His unexpected appearance in the hall was greeted with cheers, applause, and whistles from the audience. He engaged with viewers, listened to their reactions, and there was even a rush for selfies with the actor.

Hamal appeared visibly excited to be at Ashtanarayan Hall after a decade. Taking to the stage, he even danced to the song “Achha Lekin Londonko Chisoley Samau La” from the film. Speaking briefly to the media on his way out, Hamal said the moment reminded him of the old days, as he was able to connect with single-screen audiences once again after 10 years.

Produced under the banner of Creative Cine Arts, the film is backed by producers Nem Maharjan, Deepak Dhakal, Narendra Maharjan, and Dhruba Neupane. The cast includes Rajesh Hamal, Raj Katuwal, Niti Shah, Sanisha Bhattarai, Nir Shah, Prashant Tamrakar, Rajiv Jung Basnet, Ramesh Chand Sodari, and Deepa Shahi. With cinematography by Raju Bikram Thapa and editing by Sahil Khan, the film is expected to make a strong opening at the Nepali box office.
