The English-language film Kama, produced by Nepali actor and filmmaker Bikram D. Joshi, has been nominated at the 11th National Film Awards–2025 in the United Kingdom.
Joshi, who has been residing in the UK for a long time, has his new film Kama nominated in the “Best Independent Film” category. The crime suspense film, which won the hearts of audiences, was released in the second week of March across several cities in the UK.
In this category, Kama is competing against British films such as Trading Water, Demise, Before Nikkah, Liala, Black Cab, Four Murders, A Brother’s Bond, Don’t Turn Out the Lights, Cookster – The Darkest Days, and Reputation.
The winner of this prestigious and highly competitive award will be announced at a grand ceremony on July 2, 2025, at Porchester Hall in London. The award organizer, the National Film Academy (UK), publicly announced the nominations on May 19 and has opened online public voting until June 19. Winners will be determined based on the public vote.
In this context, producer Joshi has called on all Nepalis around the world to vote for Kama and help secure its victory.
He said, “Having a Nepali film nominated at the UK’s National Film Awards is a matter of pride for all of us. Therefore, I sincerely request everyone to vote for Kama.”
Established in 2015, the National Film Academy’s awards ceremony is one of the most prestigious annual events in the UK. Awards are given in categories such as Best British Film, Best Actor/Actress, Best Director, Best Script, Best Independent Film, and Best Newcomer. In addition, Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to British cinema.
Kama, directed by Bhimsen Lama, is based on a story written by the late Bisharad Basnet. The screenplay and dialogues were developed by Laxman Subedi, Bikram D. Joshi, and Hiral Joshi. The film has previously won awards at various international film festivals.
The main cast includes Nepali actors Tank Dhakala and Sameer Gurung; Indian actress Pooja Gupta; and British actors Matthew Webford, Jemima Tomes, and Mia Bennett.
Bikram Joshi served as the executive producer of Kama, with Hiral Joshi as producer and Ishwar Shrestha and MG Amin as co-producers. The entire film was shot in the UK.
Previously, Joshi has acted in and produced films such as Happy Days, Password, Hello Jindagi, and Radha. He is currently preparing for the international screening of Kama and working on a new Nepali film titled Bikram.
