The special preview screening of the highly anticipated Nepali film Mahabhoj, set to release nationwide this Thursday, was held on Tuesday evening in Kathmandu.

The exclusive show, organized a day before the film’s release, was attended by journalists, the film unit, and 60 representatives selected from cooperative victims across the country.

A deeply emotional atmosphere prevailed throughout the screening. The cooperative victims shared that the film reflected the harsh realities of their own lives. They expressed that its subject matter empowered and inspired them even more strongly in their pursuit of justice. After the screening, they enthusiastically chanted slogans in front of the media, stating, “Mahabhoj has given a voice from the screen to the cries of victims ignored by the state.”

They also expressed gratitude towards director Dinesh Raut, producer Himal Kadel, writer Bikash Subedi, and the entire cast, stating that all Nepalis at home and abroad should watch and support the film’s success. According to them, Mahabhoj is not just entertainment—it is also a voice of protest that boldly questions the state apparatus.

Journalists, too, gave positive feedback regarding the film’s content and presentation. They appreciated how the film artistically depicted social realities and praised director Raut’s directorial abilities. They remarked that Mahabhoj is not just a film but a powerful social document.

Meanwhile, major multiplexes and single-screen theaters across the country have opened advance bookings for Mahabhoj. According to distributors, the film is set to release in nearly 200 shows across Nepal.

Featuring lead performances by Dayahang Rai, Aryan Sigdel, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Malika Mahat, Gaumaya Gurung, Basundhara Bhusal, and Mohan Niraula, Mahabhoj is based on a serious social issue concerning cooperative institutions. It portrays, in a heartfelt manner, the consequences faced after people’s savings in cooperatives are lost. The film’s core narrative revolves around the victims’ suffering, the mental struggles of employees, and political manipulation. It also incorporates humor through its characters to make the film engaging.

A joint presentation of Clock Work Creation and Picture Frame, the film is also set to release simultaneously in several countries outside Nepal.
