Story Behind ‘Janai Haraeko Manchhe: Sambandhka Dhagaharu’

If someone were to ask what kind of films Nepali audiences are currently interested in, most would likely say: emotional films. Why? Because there are plenty of examples—Purna Bahadurko Sarangi, Boksiko Ghar, Angela, Unko Sweater, and so on.

Audiences have shifted from comedy to emotional films that reflect their own lives and experiences. Director Himal Neupane of Janai Haraeko Manchhe: Sambandhka Dhagaharu says his team is responding to this very trend.

“From our announcement video to every teaser released so far, I believe the message is clear,” says Neupane. “Our film portrays the challenges faced by the average Nepali. The recently released song also shows the struggle of a son trying to make his mother happy, even if it means walking away from the familiar.”

According to Neupane, the film reflects the realities of Nepal’s working and middle classes. Despite financial hardship, the son’s big heart is a central theme of the story.

He shares that rather than idealized romance, this film was born out of a desire to depict real-life events and truths.

Janai Haraeko Manchhe is slated for release on Bhadra 6 (August 22). Vijay Baral stars in the lead role and has been tagged as an “Epic Natural Star” by the producers. Filming is complete, and the movie is currently in post-production.

Shot in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavre, the film’s associate director is actor Manish Raut of Prem Geet 3 fame.

The cast includes Keki Adhikari, Miruna Magar, Gaurav Pahari, Sushank Mainali, Bholaraj Sapkota, Rear Rai, Bhavana Khapangi Magar, Rupesh Lama, and Suman Thapa, alongside Baral.

Produced under the Paperclip banner by Kamal Neupane and Bimal Neupane, the film’s co-producers are R.K. Manandhar, Rupesh Lama, C.R. Basnet, Narayan Timilsina, and Chudamani Sibakoti.

With music by Thaneshwor Gautam, Arjun Pokhrel, SD Yogi, and Prashant Sibakoti, the film’s DOP is Naveen Gurung, and cinematography is by Krishna Pariyar.

The story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Bhanubhakta Dhakal. Dinesh Bahadur Raut is the chief assistant director, with Tarkaraj Neupane, Ravindra Nepal, Monika Thapa, and Akash KC serving as assistants. Laxman Raj Paudel is the production controller.

Govinda Shahi’s Kafiya Films is in charge of distribution.

Following the all-time blockbuster Purna Bahadurko Sarangi, this is Vijay Baral’s first lead role of the year. The film, starring both Baral and Adhikari, is expected to be a major success in 2081 B.S. for the Nepali film industry.
