Nepal Scotland Association has announced the list of films participating in the Indigenous Tribal Film Festival–2025, scheduled to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Shrawan 3 (19 July 2025), Saturday. The festival will showcase a total of 41 films, including 15 short films, five documentaries, 13 indigenous tribal films, and eight mainstream films based on indigenous tribal stories.
Out of 60 applications received for the festival, the organizing committee has selected a total of 41 films.
The short films include Bengtha (Director Indra Bahadur Pariyar), Devineshan (Director Gopal Acharya), Adekh (Director Ayub KC), Jangalma (Director Bibek Ramdam), Khil (Director Vikas Magar), Color of Tea (Director Raj Kumar Lamichhane), The Black Pig (Director Navin Menyangbo), Laulsa Parheke (Director Binod Pudasaini), The Blue Sky (Director Nirmal Paudel), Pheke (Mother Tongue, Director Toma Lama), Mata (Producer Uma Karki), Namlo (Journey of Porters) (Director Heman Tamang), Ribha (Director Prasis Bajracharya), Sante (Director Dipak Tamang), Turkeyusi (Niv Bajracharya), and Apron (Director Kiran Prasad Dhital).
Documentaries include Ga Ghar (Director Dip Narayan Rajbanshi), Wadahangne (Papani, Director Jas Kumar Rai), Girls Rewriting Destiny (Director Lov Pyakurel), The Everest Mom (Director Sangita Shrestha), and Divine Dailyma (Director KP Pathak).
Similarly, indigenous films include Kartavya Aar Sangharsha (Director Santosh Sarkar), Gale Wana (Director Anukta Sthapit), Astu (Director Dipak Tamang Lama), Lojima (Director Sagar Subba), Hangnand (Director Vijay Sanyok Subba), Mukhia (Director Pritam Gurung), Namlor Journey of Porters (Director Heman Tamang), Semiphung (Director Ranveer Limbu), Sugup (Director Loken Saba Limbu), Che (Director Sagar Kerung), Yupparung (Director Rabin Shrestha), Jitiya (Parshuram Chaudhary), Lakhe Aju (Director Aryan Nakarmi), and Nakchhong (Director Kiran Rai).
The festival will also present special film awards to movies made with mainstream indigenous tribal stories. Films in this category include Gaun Aayeko Bato (Director Navin Subba), Anjila (Milan Chams), Karsang (Director Yam Sherpa), Ghar Jwai (Director Anil Budha Magar), Khushma (Director Ashok Thapa), Gorkha Warrior (Milan Chams), and Tulki (Director Dev Thapa).
Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Debut Director, and Best Debut Actor/Actress will be presented to participating films.
On 19 July, films including Anjila, Lakhe Aju, Karsang, Mukhya, and several short films will be screened. On this day, there will also be indigenous tribal food stalls, traditional attire displays, interactive sessions, cultural programs, honors, and award ceremonies, according to Festival Director Arun Kumar Pradhan.
Moreover, all preparations in Scotland have been completed, and the Nepalese Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Chandra Kumar Ghimire, will be the chief guest at the event, said Nepal Scotland Association President Vijay Dangol.
This festival, held for the first time in the UK, is primarily organized by Nepal Scotland Society. On behalf of Nepal, the Nepal Film Directors Society and Nepal Film Workers Federation from Koshi Province are acting as coordinators. According to the Directors Society President Janakdip Parajuli, preparations from Nepal’s side are also complete.
