The evergreen hit song “Dhoka Diyo Timile” has been re-released in a new version, sung by Roshan Rai, the first runner-up of The Voice of Nepal Season 6. The song, presented by Lungto Creation, was officially launched today (Asar 3) at a grand event held at QFX Hall, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu. The official video has also been released on Lungto Creation’s YouTube channel.
Originally released 35 years ago, the song was composed by veteran composer and scholar Shantiram Rai, with lyrics by senior lyricist Buddhavir Lama. The original male version was sung by Saroj Kumar Shrestha, while the female version featured the voice of veteran singer Sukmit Gurung. The new version has been arranged by Devesh Rai and mixed/mastered by Kishwor Thapa. Additional music was composed by the late Bikram Rai, to whom the song is dedicated, and features vocals by popular singer Melina Rai.
Speaking at the launch event, Shantiram reminisced about the struggles he faced 35 years ago. “The song ‘Dhoka Diyo Timile’ was born out of hardship during my early days in Kathmandu,” he said. “It has remained beloved by generations — fathers, sons, and grandsons alike.”
Roshan Rai, expressing his gratitude during the event, bowed to Shantiram Rai and thanked him for the opportunity to perform such a timeless classic. The event was hosted by popular presenter Sushil Nepal, the host of The Voice of Nepal, who also praised Roshan’s singing and acting talents.
The music video, directed by renowned filmmaker Rajesh Puma Rai, portrays a story of heartbreak and betrayal between lovers. The visuals, crafted to match the emotional tone of the song, feature actress Keki Adhikari alongside Roshan Rai himself. Director Rajesh brought out strong performances from both actors.
Roshan, who rose to fame through The Voice of Nepal Season 6, has been involved in music since childhood. He recorded his first song in 2003 (BS 2060) and has since sung over a thousand songs and released four albums. A versatile talent, he not only sings but also writes lyrics and composes music. More than 100 of his compositions have reached audiences. With his debut music video performance, Roshan’s acting is also being widely praised. Songs like “Mero Pyaro Khotang”, “Timi Sita Maya Garda”, and “Jeevanma Eutai” are especially popular among fans.
