The special screening of the film Sati Devi, which highlights women’s awareness, social reality, and human sensitivity, along with the Karnali Excellence in Women Honor 2082 ceremony, was grandly held on Saturday in Birendranagar, Surkhet.
Held at Laxmi Cinema Temple, the event was attended by prominent figures including Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel, Birendranagar Mayor Mohanamaya Dhakal, and Provincial Minister of Energy Vijaya Budha. The special screening, witnessed by over 400 audience members, left the hall deeply emotional. Some viewers were moved to tears.
Mayor Mohanamaya Dhakal shared her thoughts on social media:
“After watching Sati Devi, I felt a deep heaviness in my heart. The portrayal of women’s struggles, social discrimination, and teenage emotions—all reflected our real lives. When the film ended, I couldn’t even stand up right away; I just wanted to sit quietly for a moment.”
Having watched the film alongside Energy Minister Vijaya Budha, Dhakal also suggested to director Laxman Subedi that the sequel should depict the stories of successful women. The director responded positively with a smile.

“I myself am from Karnali, and watching the film with my own people in my own place was an unparalleled emotional experience. I want to shoot my next project in this province.”
