The poster of Nepal’s first film Aama has now been featured on official postage stamps. The announcement was made during a special program organized on Monday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Film Development Board.

Released in Ashoj 2021 B.S. (circa 1964 A.D.), Aama was directed by Hira Singh Khatri and starred Shiv Shankar Khatri and Bhuwan Chand in lead roles. The film is considered the beginning of the Nepali film industry.

The Postal Services Department has issued two stamps, each priced at Rs. 10, featuring images of the lead actor and actress from Aama. A special design has also been created for the stamps’ First Day Cover.

The unveiling ceremony was jointly attended by actress Bhuwan Chand, Chaitra Devi, Basundhara Bhusal, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, Film Development Board Chairperson Dinesh D.C., and Director General of the Postal Services Department, Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeny.

The stamp design was created by postal officer Chandra Thapa. At the event, Director General Pangeny said, “We are confident this stamp will help share the historical significance of Aama with the world.”

She added, “I am also a musician—I write and sing songs—so this moment is personally special for me. We include national icons and significant elements on our postage stamps.”

This special stamp is expected to contribute to the promotion and recognition of Nepali cinema.
