A new film titled ‘Captain Saab’, based on the life of Captain Rameshwar Thapa, has been officially announced with a special ceremony held in Gaurighat, Kathmandu on Thursday.

Directed by Dipendra K. Khanal, the film will portray the cinematic journey of Captain Thapa, who is not only a pilot but also a successful entrepreneur and media personality.

The inaugural shot of the film was directed by renowned businessman Dr. Upendra Mahato, Kalyap Thapa, and Captain Thapa himself.

Presented as the second venture by Patakaaha Production, the film features Khagendra Lamichhane, Sujata Pant, and Sanjog Rasaili in lead roles. Khanal had previously directed Khagendra and Sujata together in the film Dhanapati, but this marks the first collaboration among the three actors.

Krishna Bahadur Thapa will handle cinematography, and the film will be shot across Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Kavre districts. Filming is scheduled to begin in the first week of Bhadra (mid-August).

Director Khanal remarked, “Captain Saab will be a film of a different flavor. It will blend the highs and lows of Captain Thapa’s life with cinematic liberty to create a fully entertaining experience. The film will explore challenges faced in the skies, societal respect, and complex layers of involvement in business — making it a truly compelling story.”

Produced under Yarsa Studio in collaboration with Rich Entertainment, the film’s producers are Dipendra K. Khanal, Karan Shrestha, and Srishtima Khanal, with Srijana Napit as the executive producer.

Saugat Basnet is the chief assistant director. The poster and publicity design will be handled by Bhimsen Shahi ‘Royal Bhimsen’ through Trident Concept. Aki Thekpa is the production designer, and Rohit Raj Gautam along with Bishnu Mainali are the production managers.
