A film adaptation of Guru Prasad Mainali’s renowned short story ‘Paralko Ago’ (The Fire of Straw) is set to be produced. The project was confirmed after the Mainali Katha Puraskar Trust granted production rights to Hari Om Cine Makers.

The story ‘Paralko Ago’ is part of Mainali’s celebrated short story collection ‘Naso’. The film rights were given to producer Sushil Pokharel by Guru Prasad Mainali’s son, Madhav Prasad Mainali, with the condition that the essence of the story remains intact.

According to producer Pokharel, the film is scheduled for release during Dashain next year. Notably, 45 years ago, director Pratap Subba made a black-and-white film based on the same story.

This time, Pokharel aims to bring a fresh perspective with changes in locations, presentation, and screenplay. The film will be directed by Laxman Sunar, with shooting set to begin in Fagun (February/March). The production team is currently in the casting phase.

The story of ‘Paralko Ago’ revolves around the household disputes and reconciliation of a couple Chame and Gauthali.

The film will feature writing by Sushil Devkota, lyrics by Surendra Rana, music by Satyaswarup, and choreography by Ramji Lamichhane. Narendra Ghimire will serve as the production controller.

Previously, producer Pokharel has been involved in the production of films like ‘Maidan,’ ‘Jeevandata,’ ‘Nigarani,’ ‘Jai Shiv Shankar,’ ‘Love Sab,’ ‘Radhe,’ and ‘Yatra.’
