A song from the film Gunyu Chalo: The Dress has been officially released. Titled “Ma Phool Hu Ki Kaanda” (Am I a Flower or a Thorn?), the song was launched today amid a special event organized by the production team.
The lyrics are penned by Lekhu Sahayatri, with vocals by Manisha Pokhrel and music composed by Sahayatri himself.
The song reflects a romantic soul yearning for love and acceptance. It conveys that if someone truly loves, they should experience it deeply—and prove that love sincerely.
The lyrics request genuine love after admiration, expressing willingness to surrender youth and to be cherished wholeheartedly. The music video features actor Najir Husen performing an expressive dance.
Dressed in a feminine appearance, Najir delivers a powerful performance, showcasing refined gestures and posture. Actor Sushil Sitoula is also seen in the video.
The film’s release date has been announced as Bhadra 13 (August 29, 2025).
Directed by Samundra Bhatt, Gunyu Chalo: The Dress is based on the story of a gender minority—focusing on a transgender woman (transwoman) character.
Najir Husen plays the lead role of the transwoman. The film also features Sanchita Luitel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari in pivotal roles.
Claimed to be Nepal’s first full-fledged film centered on a transgender narrative, its international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo 8 in the United States.
The film’s entire post-production—including editing, coloring, sound design, mixing, and background score—was completed overseas in a Hollywood-style workflow.
Hollywood singer Lisa Gerrard, known for her work in Gladiator 2, has lent her voice to the film. The entire background score is composed by Marcelo Di Francisci.
The project is a joint collaboration between a Nepali film production house and a Hollywood production house. The film is produced by Akash Budhathoki and V-Bhanse Janubon. Jeffrey J. Wain and Steve Johnston serve as executive producers, with Anupam Shrestha as associate producer.
The cinematography is by Alok Shukla, and the lyrics are by Lekhu Sahayatri. The film has also been officially selected for the prestigious Tasveer Film Market in the USA.
