A new Nepali feature film titled ‘Jadau’, focusing on inter-caste love and caste-based discrimination, has been officially announced at an event held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The emotional highlight of the program was the recital of a song with powerful lyrics such as “Nakhako bishle satayo, nachalne khoti banayo…”, written by Preeti Kaur. The verses, recited by actors Mukun Bhusal, Niti Shah, Prabhatpal Thakuri, Binod Neupane, and Sandhya Shrestha, left the audience moved.
Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC, the chief guest, unveiled the title ‘Jadau’ by reciting the famous poem by Laxmi Prasad Devkota, “A person is great by heart, not by caste.”
The film will be jointly directed by Kaji Limbu and Anjan Sharma, with shooting scheduled to begin in the first week of Bhadra (August). It is being produced under the banners of Silver Screen Entertainment and Samishran Movies & Entertainment.
Managing director Bimala Bhandari stated that ‘Jadau’ is inspired by real incidents of caste discrimination still prevalent in Nepali society and aims to raise a bold voice against such practices.
Director Anjan Sharma mentioned the film would present real-life events in an entertaining yet impactful manner. Kaji Limbu, who also wrote the film, shared that the storyline is drawn from his personal experiences with caste-based injustice and is crafted to touch the hearts of all Nepalis.
The cast includes Mukun Bhusal, Niti Shah, Prabhatpal Thakuri, Binod Neupane, and debutant Sandhya Shrestha, alongside Richa Sharma, Anil Subba, and CP Pudasaini (Dhature).
The film’s cinematography is by Shyam Tamang, art direction by Chiranjivi Bhandari, action choreography by Milan Shrestha, and associate direction by Binaya Raj Paudel. Music is composed by Babul Giri and Saroj Pokharel. Shooting will take place in Dang and Pyuthan districts.
