A new Nepali film titled ‘Railko Bato’ is set to portray the social, political, and physical realities of the Karnali region on screen.
The film will be directed and written by Laxman Sunar, under the production of Kasturi Production Pvt. Ltd. and in collaboration with Red Umbrella Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
Announcing the film officially, the production team also released a thematic poster. The poster shows a gate with the words “Gaunpalika Bhawan Uddghatan” and a large banner below it that reads “Swagat Chha Pradhanmantriko Jyu Lai.” The scene hints at a critical commentary, suggesting whether Karnali has merely become a ‘display laboratory’ for the state.
The music will be composed by Suraj Pandit, cinematography by Nisal Paudel, and the poster was designed by Rakesh Dahal. The executive producer is Nagendra Ghimire, and distribution rights have been acquired by Kafiya Films.
The prominent line on the poster—“Laija Tero Singhadarbar, Malai Mero Gaun Firta De”—expresses a deep emotional and political message about state neglect.
According to director Sunar, the film will focus on the struggles of ordinary citizens, the dynamics between husband and wife, and political indifference. The core narrative will revolve around the lack of roads in Karnali, medical hardships, interference in development projects, and ignorance from central power structures.
The film is scheduled to be shot across various districts of Karnali by the end of this year and planned to be released in the year 2083 B.S. The screenplay is currently in its final phase, and the casting will be finalized soon, as per the production team.
Previously, a music video titled ‘Railko Bato’ had garnered notable attention. The film team stated that the upcoming film with the same title will strive to vividly portray “the pain of remote areas and the hope like a train that never arrives.”
