Following the critically acclaimed ‘Khusma’, which was released on Asoj 3 last year, director Ashok Thapa Magar is now working on his next feature film, ‘Jalaki’. The film has already completed a few days of its shoot back in Chaitra, and the second phase of filming is scheduled to begin on Asoj 21 (October 7).
At the National Film Awards 2080, actress Upasana Singh Thakuri won Best Actress for her role in ‘Khusma’. She returns to the screen in ‘Jalaki’ in a lead role alongside Dhiraj Magar and Sonam Topden. Given her on-screen pairing with Dhiraj in ‘Khusma’, the duo is again expected to capture the audience’s attention.
On Monday, the makers released two official posters featuring Dhiraj and Upasana. The poster design was created by Royal Bhimsen from Trident Concept.
The film also marks the silver screen debut of Miss Sikkim, Sahara Hangma Limbu.
Based on a love triangle, the cast includes Shilpa Maskey, Mao Tse Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Astitwa Bhattachan, Sangita Thapa Magar, Raju Regmi Magar, and Khadka Bahadur Pun (Khabpu). The rest of the cast is still being finalized.
‘Jalaki’ refers to a symbolic stone pillar of spiritual significance in the Magar community. In the film, it represents memory, love, and cultural identity. Director Thapa Magar has revealed that the shooting will be completed in three phases — across various locations in Rukum, Rolpa, Myagdi, Baglung, Pokhara, and South Korea.
The film aims to portray the culture and lifestyle of the Magar and Gurung communities through its visual storytelling.
The producers of the film include Om Gharti Magar, Bir Bahadur Lama, Chandra Bahadur Bhattachan, Betane Magar (Babita Rana), Man Bahadur Dhanah Magar, and Sushmita Budhathoki.
Under the M Media Pvt. Ltd. banner, the film’s Director of Photography (DOP) is Shailendra D. Karki, with Raju Regmi Magar as line producer, and Mahesh Baral as chief assistant director. The music is composed by SD Yogi and Sarita Rai, with lyrics by Surendra Rana and Ram Aviral Bista.
Director Thapa Magar’s debut film ‘Khusma’ featured the song ‘Rukum Maikot’, which became the first Nepali song to cross 100 million views in just five months on YouTube — a historic record.
