What happens when a man living with the status of a ‘beggar’ suddenly rises to the wealth and stature of a king? How does he manage the fortune he receives? These questions form the central premise of the film “Magne Raja,” which is set to release on Bhadra 6.
In the lead role is Kedar Ghimire, popularly known by his stage name “Magne Budha.” This character has earned him the highest remuneration in his career to date. Capitalizing on its popularity, Ghimire is stepping onto the big screen for the first time in a broader, more prominent way through Magne Raja.
The film, already a subject of discussion due to Ghimire’s much-publicized Rs. 5.1 million remuneration and the Miss Pubby controversy, is expected to serve as a major test of his box office appeal and capability. In this context, here are excerpts from a brief conversation with him:
How would you describe ‘Magne Raja’?
– It represents the story of a character born into an ordinary Nepali family. An average citizen aspires to be seen as elite in society, and this film reflects that desire.
What convinced you to accept this role?
– The story itself was compelling, but the final film turned out even better. That’s because we improvised in many scenes, which made the narrative stronger and more impactful.
You once mentioned that no one wanted to cast you in a different role. Isn’t this again the same ‘Magne Budha’?
– The name ‘Magne’ is there, but apart from the dialect, everything else—from my attire to my style—is very different from the earlier Magne Budha. Audiences will definitely notice the difference.
What is the psychology of the ‘Magne’ character in this film?
– Revealing too much would give away the story. But in short, the psychology revolves around money and the nation’s economy. Even in the trailer, there’s a line: “It’s very difficult to live as an ordinary citizen, nephew.” That reflects both the importance of money and the hardships of common people.
What are your expectations regarding the film’s performance?
– I am optimistic. The level of curiosity and interest I have witnessed after the trailer release makes me confident. I believe the film will succeed.
