The Bhojpuri-flavored song “Ladki Gori” has created significant buzz around the upcoming Nepali film “Abhimanyu: Chapter–1.” Initially promoted with an AI-generated teaser, the film’s official content rollout has intensified anticipation.

Released a week ago, the song has already surpassed 1.1 million views on YouTube, garnering widespread positive feedback. Although infused with Bhojpuri expressions, the song is in Nepali, while the video carries a distinctly Bhojpuri visual style. Audiences have praised its refreshing approach. A YouTube viewer commented: “I don’t usually listen to Bhojpuri songs, but this feels refreshing. Sugam Pokharel and Prashant Siwakoti’s vocals are sweet, and Kiran Shrestha’s dance is impressive.” Another user noted: “Unlike typical Bhojpuri tracks, this one isn’t vulgar. The dance and audio are top-notch.”

At a time when dance numbers are dominating the music scene, “Ladki Gori” has boosted the hype for “Abhimanyu.” Producer Nandu Gaire expressed confidence, saying: “If the song is a hit, the film will surely be a hit.”

For years, Nepali cinema has faced criticism for sidelining the voices and stories of the Terai community. However, “Abhimanyu” appears to challenge that trend, featuring Terai-based storylines, shooting locations in Morang and Terai regions, and lead actors from the Terai community. This has raised hopes that the film will resonate with audiences in the Madhes region, where Nepali films often struggle to connect.

“Abhimanyu: Chapter–1” is set for nationwide release on September 12 (Bhadra 27), with its Hindi version releasing globally on September 22 (Ashoj 6). The film portrays the story of a man trapped in a web of greed and his struggle to break free.

Currently in post-production, the film stars Kameshwar Chaurasia, Sarita Giri, Gaumaya Gurung, Laxmi Bardewa, Shishir Wangdel, Kiran Shrestha, Prakash Dahal, and Sushma Niraula, among others.

Presented by Seven Seas Cinema, the project marks the directorial debut of Sushant Gautam, with a screenplay by Mukesh Khanal and creative direction by Madan Thapa. Produced by Binod Poudel and Gunjan Giri, the film’s co-producers include Ramesh Chaulagain and Hari Shrestha, while executive producers are Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel, and Sandesh Shrestha. Jeevan Shakya serves as line producer.

The film’s technical crew includes Sharad Mahato (DOP), Manoj Shrestha (VFX), Supreme Parajuli (color grading), and Madan Ghimire (editing).
