INI Multiplex Introduces New Policy: Cameras and Boom Mics Restricted During Commercial Shows

INI, the country’s second-largest multiplex chain, has announced a new policy prohibiting the use of cameras and boom microphones during commercial shows across its theaters nationwide. The decision, effective immediately, has been made with the aim of safeguarding audience privacy, the company stated in a press release on Wednesday.

The statement reads: “In recent months, audiences have repeatedly raised concerns that interactions by journalists, YouTubers, and television crews during ongoing film screenings have disrupted their movie experience and compromised their privacy. Considering these grievances, INI has decided to completely restrict the use of cameras and boom mics during commercial shows. However, this does not apply to invited special events such as premieres, song launches, or trailer releases.”

The new policy will initially be enforced at Lhotse Mall (Gongabu), NB Center (New Baneshwor), Bishwojyoti Mall (Jamal), Butwal City Center, and KSR Hall (Simara).

In recent weeks, audiences have increasingly voiced dissatisfaction on social media regarding privacy violations during film screenings. This marks the first-ever institutional decision by a Nepali cinema chain to enforce such restrictions.
