Pre-booking has officially opened for Gunyu Cholo: The Dress, with theaters announcing shows in advance.

The film has secured a satisfactory number of shows. Although several Nepali films—Janai Haraeko Manche, Magne Raja, and Kosedhunga—are already in theaters, limiting the number of screenings, the allocation for Gunyu Cholo: The Dress is still considered reasonable. For instance, Nepal’s largest multiplex chain, QFX, has scheduled 14 shows in Kathmandu on the opening Friday alone. This number is notable given current audience turnout, and additional screenings may be added depending on demand.

Anticipation around the film has grown, largely due to strong praise for lead actor Najir Husen’s performance showcased in the trailer and promotional materials. The production team is confident the film will resonate with audiences.

Releasing nationwide on September 13, Gunyu Cholo: The Dress, directed by Samundra Bhatt, tells the story of a transgender woman and centers on themes of gender and identity.

Najir Husen plays the lead role as a trans woman, supported by performances from Sanchita Luitel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari.

As Nepal’s first full-length trans-centric film, its international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo 8 in the United States. The film’s entire post-production process—including editing, color grading, sound design, and background scoring—was completed abroad in Hollywood style.

Hollywood artist Lisa Gerrard has lent her voice to the soundtrack, while the background score was composed by Marcelo di Francisci. Gerrard recently contributed to Gladiator 2.

Produced in collaboration between Nepali and Hollywood production houses, the film is backed by Akash Budhathoki and V-Bhansay Janubon, with Jeffrey J. Wain and Steve Johnston serving as executive producers, and Anupam Shrestha as associate producer.

Cinematography is by Alok Shukla, with songs written by Lekhu Sahayatri. The film was also officially selected at the prestigious Tashwir Film Market in the U.S.
