Man Arrested for Fraud Using Fake Social Media Accounts

The police have arrested a man involved in fraud using fake profiles on social media platforms, including Facebook.

According to the investigation, the suspect, Rudra Bahadur Gurung, originally from Abukhaireni Rural Municipality, Ward No. 5, Tanahun, but currently residing in Highvision Colony, Ward No. 7, Chandragiri Municipality, Kathmandu, was apprehended by the police.

He has been sent to the District Police Office, Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu for further investigation regarding the fraud charges.

The investigation revealed that Gurung created fake profiles to befriend women, claiming to be a soldier working in France or Singapore. He would lure them with promises of marriage and a life in Singapore, convincing them to send money for travel documents.

He defrauded his victims by meeting them at various locations in Kathmandu and Chitwan, changing his appearance each time. He collected NPR 16,83,600 (sixteen lakh eighty-three thousand six hundred) in cash and checks, as well as NPR 10,99,600 (ten lakh ninety thousand six hundred) through 26 different eSewa wallets in the names of various individuals, bringing the total amount of fraud to NPR 27,83,200 (twenty-seven lakh eighty-three thousand two hundred).
