Maitighar is set to release on Ashoj 12 (Phulpati Day). Actor Kedar Ghimire, popularly known as Magne Budha, reprises his familiar persona in the film. While he remains enthusiastic about this project, he is equally excited to present his performance in a new environment and context. Ghimire hopes that audiences will enjoy a mix of entertainment and meaningful experiences.
Highlights from the Conversation with Kedar Ghimire:
– You recently played a lead role, but in this film, you appear in a supporting role. Which do you prefer, lead or supporting?
I don’t really make that distinction. Earlier, I was content to appear on television or in a few films so that friends and relatives could see me. Now, with the audience’s support, I got opportunities in lead roles. In terms of responsibility, I don’t see a major difference. Just as I promoted Magne Raja, I am now engaged in promoting Maitighar.
– What is your role in Maitighar?
I play the role of Lami, a matchmaker for marriage.
– Promotional materials suggest you are back in the familiar Magne Budha persona. Does this mean you couldn’t create a new character?
I do want to do something different, but producers must also be willing to invest in it. Whatever they buy, I deliver. I am not an exceptionally skilled actor, just an ordinary one. Whatever opportunities come, I have to work with them. Frankly, I am also selling what sells.
– When you heard about this proposed role, did you consider making it different?
This role was finalized as is, but I continue to make efforts. I have tried portraying various different characters, though they haven’t become commercially successful. Right after the lockdown, I created content related to cybersecurity. Not many recognized me there. Sometimes I post snippets on TikTok. While those 43 episodes did succeed, they haven’t yet translated into film opportunities.
– How do you feel about producers constantly seeking the same type of character?
This question isn’t just for me. Many actors doing normal roles face this too. Some actors, like Harivansh Acharya, Sitaram Kattel, and Bipin, manage to vary their roles. Similarly, our Saugat is very versatile. Even when we perform standard roles, we try to add subtle differences.
– What can audiences expect from Maitighar?
Firstly, it will provide plenty of humor. Secondly, it highlights the importance of one’s natal home for daughters, showing the emotional depth when a daughter is bid farewell. Since the film is based on Tamang culture, it also presents cultural elements.
