Renowned filmmaker Mao Tse Gurung is set to direct his second feature film Pension Patta, which will star popular Gurung cinema actors Bishow Gurung and Maya Gurung. Acclaimed actor Dayahang Rai has already been confirmed in the lead role.
Bishow Gurung, celebrated for his performances in Juni Juni, Timi Nabhae, Mho, Kutumberi Saino, Phichyo, and Sirsuwa, has earned wide recognition in Gurung cinema. Similarly, actress Maya Gurung has showcased her talent in Hyul, Chyagi, and Ghalek. Both actors expressed their excitement at making their debut on the Nepali silver screen through this project.
The duo shared that they feel even more thrilled to enter mainstream Nepali cinema under the direction of Mao Tse Gurung, widely regarded as the “Godfather” of Gurung films.
Scheduled to go on floors this Kartik (October/November), Pension Patta may sound like a story about a retired Gurkha soldier, but according to director-producer Gurung, the film will actually explore how a greedy young man transforms into a generous individual.
Produced under the banner of Mao Tse Gurung Films, the screenplay has also been penned by Gurung himself. Production Manager D.B. Gurung confirmed that the remaining cast members will be announced soon. The film will be shot entirely in and around Pokhara, Kaski district. The cinematography will be handled by Sushan Prajapati, with Suraj Tamu serving as the casting director.
Mao Tse Gurung’s debut directorial venture was a box office success. Known as a sought-after character actor, Gurung has in recent years dedicated himself to writing and directing. Having previously directed several acclaimed Gurung-language films, he now continues his journey as an actor, director, and producer.
