Actress Upasana Singh Thakuri was excited when she received the script of Maitighar, impressed by its strong storyline. However, along with the joy, she also felt a sense of pressure.
Speaking about her upcoming release, Maitighar, Upasana admitted that she minimized this pressure with the mindset of “I will do my best.” She further shared that the strong lineup of actors in the film also gave her motivation.
“Since it was being made under the name of such a popular film, I naturally felt pressure. But the lineup of co-actors inspired me to perform even better,” she said.
Upasana portrays the role of Purnima, a Tamang woman. She relied heavily on the film’s writer, Ramsharan Pathak, to shape her character. She explained that his clarity about the characters helped her embody Purnima more authentically.
“The writer was very clear about his characters—who they are and how they should be. Spending time with him helped me understand his vision, and I focused on portraying Purnima in the best way possible,” Upasana shared.
For her, playing Purnima was a fresh experience. Previously, she had played a Magar woman in Khusma and a Thakali woman in Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi. Compared to those roles, Purnima is more emotional and family-oriented, she said.
“This is my first time playing a Tamang woman. It’s a deeply emotional character, strongly connected with her family,” she noted.
Upasana expressed confidence in her performance, adding that her co-stars also delivered their best. Still, she acknowledged that it is ultimately the audience who will judge the film.
“I really loved the script. When audiences watch the film, married women will find themselves reflected in it, while others will connect with the emotions of their daughters. I am eagerly waiting to see how deeply the audience resonates with it,” she added.
Directed by Milan Tamang, Maitighar is set to release on October 13, coinciding with Phulpati.
