“Paanch Pandav” held its muhurat ceremony today in Kathmandu at Ganeshthan.
Most of the film’s cast attended the ceremony. The film is directed by Basant Niraula and stars Harivansh Acharya, Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus), Jitu Nepal, and Sagar Lamsal (Bale) in the main roles. These actors will portray the titular “five Pandavs.”
Contrary to the title, the film is a social drama rather than a religious story, the production team clarified. While the name references the central characters of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, the film focuses on a contemporary narrative.
It has not been officially revealed which actors will portray Yudhishthir, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul, and Sahadev, but based on age and appearance, Harivansh Acharya is likely to play Yudhishthir.
The story also involves the marriage of Draupadi, raising questions such as who will play Draupadi, who is Pandu, and who is Kunti in the film. According to the production team, Deepashree Niraula and Jani Gurung will play the female leads. Selection of a few supporting actors is still in progress, director Niraula confirmed.
Produced under the banner of Kali Rani Films, the film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Sushil Paudel, who is also known for the acclaimed film “Prasad.”
Kali Rani Shrestha is the producer, with Naveen Shrestha as the presenter. Given the presence of popular and veteran actors like Harivansh Acharya, the film has a high budget, and the production team assures no compromises will be made.
“Our film features a strong lineup of actors, and we aim to create a movie that audiences will love. We intend to make a successful and memorable historical film,” said presenter Naveen Shrestha.
Naveen previously produced the film “Laaj Sharanam” last year. Filming is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with Dilip Pant serving as the production manager.
