‘Unko Sweater’ to Release in India: Screening from Sikkim, Darjeeling to Delhi

 The Nepali film “Unko Sweater,” which achieved remarkable success at the Nepali box office with over NPR 12 crore in revenue, is set to release in India. Produced by Artmandu, the film will be distributed in India by Asli Production, which has issued an official statement regarding the release.

According to director Naveen Chauhan, the film will be screened from November 21 in key locations including Darjeeling, Siliguri, Gangtok, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Assam, and Delhi in the first phase.

Recently certified by India’s film certification board, the movie will be screened at prestigious theaters including SVF Cinema in Darjeeling, Kurseong Fantazy Cinema, Namchi Imperial Cinema, Denzong Cinema and Vajra Cinema in Gangtok, INOX Gangtok, as well as INOX Cinema City Center, INOX Vega Circle, INOX Agropolis, and South City Siliguri in Siliguri. These locations have been prioritized to target Nepali-speaking audiences and the local Nepali community in the Himalayan region.

The India premiere will take place on November 20 in Sikkim. Actors Bipin Karki, Alex Paras, singer Sujan Chapagain, and director Naveen Chauhan from Nepal will attend, along with local Nepali artists and state-level dignitaries from Sikkim.

Released on Baisakh 26 in Nepal, “Oonko Sweater” was screened in about 40 theaters for 51 days and became one of the most talked-about films of the year. Written and directed by Naveen Chauhan, the film has been praised by audiences and critics for its storytelling, strong performances, and emotionally engaging music that reflect the real sentiments and understanding of Nepali society.

The film features impactful performances by Bipin Karki, Miruna Magar, Alex Paras, Pariksha Limbu, Wilson Bikram Rai, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, and Sunil Pokhrel. Songs are performed by Sujan Chapagain, with music directed by Kovid Bajra.

Asli Production stated that “Unko Sweater” is expected to make a strong impact on Indian audiences, just as it did in Nepal. Filled with Nepali storytelling and cultural sentiment, the film is anticipated to attract not only Nepali-speaking audiences in India but also a broader Indian audience interested in original narratives.
