With a long-term vision to enhance the quality of film education in Nepal, the Film Development Board has distributed scholarships for the year 2082 to students studying at various academic levels.
The program, conducted regularly to support film-related studies, research, and academic advancement, is regarded as a major step in strengthening the Board’s commitment to the educational sector.
This year, students taking film studies at the secondary level (+2) received an annual scholarship of Rs. 15,000 each. The Board’s continued effort to promote film education at the school level has encouraged young learners to engage with the sector from an early age.
Similarly, undergraduate students pursuing film-related subjects were granted an annual scholarship of Rs. 50,000. The support, distributed across open, women, and inclusive groups—including Madhesi, Dalit, Indigenous, and Janajati communities—aims to broaden access to film education and uplift diverse talents across the country.
For postgraduate students conducting film-related research, the Board provided research grants of Rs. 25,000. The grant is expected to encourage academic studies focusing on social, cultural, aesthetic, and policy dimensions of cinema. According to the Board, such support also helps produce essential research materials that contribute to policy reform in the film sector.
Additionally, postgraduate students studying film law, policy, and related subjects and writing dissertations received scholarships of Rs. 25,000 each. The Board believes this initiative will help develop future film planners, analysts, and policymakers by strengthening the foundation for professional expertise.
According to the Film Development Board, sustainable development of the Nepali film industry is possible only through strong educational programs, research, and inclusive talent development. The scholarship program, therefore, remains a long-term priority, with the Board expressing confidence that it will inspire emerging professionals, attract new talent, and help systematize the overall sector.
