Singer and musician Babul Giri (Dhan Bahadur), arrested on charges of abetment after singer Nitu Paudel committed self-immolation, has been released on bail of Rs 300,000. The Kathmandu District Court ordered his release for further proceedings.
According to SP Pawan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police, Giri admitted in his statement that he was responsible for Paudel’s decision to take her own life.
“He confessed that his own mistakes pushed the singer to self-immolate,” Bhattarai stated.
Giri and Paudel were in a romantic relationship for some time. In his court statement, Giri expressed remorse, admitting that his failure to take his partner’s concerns seriously became the reason behind the tragic incident. Considering the defendant’s confession, the court granted temporary release on bail while the case proceeds further, according to a source at the district court.
On Kartik 1, Paudel set herself on fire inside Giri’s studio in Anamnagar. She was immediately taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital, where she passed away on Kartik 7 during treatment. Following her death, Giri had presented himself at the District Police Office.
