After a photo and video of UML leader Mahesh Basnet with Comedy Champion director Bishal Bhandari went viral, Bhandari has issued a public clarification. He stated that the meeting had nothing to do with politics but was solely related to a personal issue he has been dealing with.
Bhandari explained, “Due to a personal problem I have been facing recently, I have been meeting officials from the former Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, various government departments, political leaders, and concerned individuals seeking help. Even after the Gen-Z movement, I have remained in contact with officials from the current PM’s Office and Home Ministry regarding the same issue.”
The personal issue he referred to is his financial dispute with businessman Hari Bhattarai, who had invested in Bhandari’s company. Their disagreement over investment and financial dealings escalated publicly, with both posting accusations on social media. The dispute is now under consideration in court.
Bhandari had previously sought help from former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as well. As criticism increased on social media after a photo claimed he had “gone to the gang,” Bhandari came forward with his clarification.
“I did not go to Basnet for political support, nor am I aligned with any party, group, or individual politically,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Bhandari’s sister, Manju Bhandari, is a UML leader from Sunsari. She is a former central committee member who won the deputy mayoral seat in Dharan in 2017 and later lost to Harka Sampang in 2022.
