Director Shovit Basnet says that the story of PR is not a fictional creation but a narrative born from his own family’s real-life experience.
“The story actually began with my daughter Salina,” Basnet shared. “Parents often assume that money grows on trees abroad and that children simply send it home. But reality is very different.” When his daughter moved to Australia—and after he himself visited—he realized that life abroad is far from easy, and only hard work makes survival possible. He has brought this very truth to the screen through PR.
Returning to direction after a decade, Basnet is currently in Australia to finalize international screening arrangements for the film. Before flying out, he held a press conference at a hotel in New Baneshwor, where he announced that PR will be officially released through the box office in both Australia and New Zealand. “I’m heading to Australia and New Zealand for 10–12 days for the release-related work,” he said. “Once the box office release in New Zealand was confirmed, I set out to complete the remaining preparations.”
He shared that special screenings held three months ago in various Australian cities received positive reactions, with viewers saying the film reflected their own lives. Basnet also revealed that screenings in Portugal and other countries are being prepared, with more nations to be announced soon.
He is confident that Nepali audiences will appreciate the film. The recently released song ‘Tata Bye Bye’ has gained widespread attention on social media, boosting anticipation for the movie.
Basnet is also actively selling international screening rights. According to him, the Japan rights for PR have already been acquired by Yuna Digital.
Set to release nationwide on Mangsir 26 (December 11), PR will begin its promotional campaign soon after Basnet returns to Nepal.
The film stars Neer Shah, Gauri Malla, R.A. Suraj Paudel, Vinita Karki, Rajan Kunwar, Pooja Chaudhary, Ashma Adhikari, Mastani, Bimala Khatri, Ganesh Budhathoki, Max Babu, Krishna Thapa, and Naveen Ghyal, with special appearances by Rabindra Khadka, Uttam K.C., and Dikpal Karki.
